Policies for Adult Classes

Registration and Payments
Register for classes through our online system only. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discovery, PayPal or South Bay School of Cooking gift certificates.

Refunds
No refunds. We schedule chefs, purchase food and potentially turn away other business once you purchase/register for your class date. Cancellations received prior to 72 hours of date/time of class or beginning of a series are eligible for a class credit or transfer to another class only. Registration is a firm commitment to attend class and is an agreement to our policies. Please do not ask for exceptions.

Cancellations
Cancellations or no-shows less than 72 hours prior to time/date of class or once a series starts are not eligible for credits or make-ups. You may send someone in your place. Policy applies to gift certificates. We are one of the few schools who do not require a 7 day cancellation notice. (Coursehorse purchases: Our Cancellation policy applies, please direct questions to Coursehorse.

South Bay School of Cooking reserves the right to cancel or postpone a class/series. In the case of a cancellation, SBSOC may refund your payment. In this case only requests for refunds must be made within 60 days of initial payment.

Age Restrictions
Appropriate ages are posted in the descriptions for each class. Sorry we cannot have infants or children in class unless it’s a pre-designed kids class. Children detract from the experience of other students.

Gift Certificates
Using a Gift Certificate cancellation policy remains the same as above and there are no refunds and no re-crediting the certificate. In the case that SBSOC cancels or postpones a class, you will be eligible for a credit placed into your cooking school account for the value of the registered class.

Food and Drink
Menu items may change without notice. We cannot accommodate food allergies or aversions to food. Please choose your class appropriately. You are responsible for what you consume in class.

Yes, you can walk away with the recipes and devour the delicious rewards of your hands-on labors in class. No food shall be taken home unless with exceptions of baking classes.

If you bring wine or beer to enjoy with your meal, for safety reasons you will only be allowed to consume it once the knives are put away and food is served. You take full responsibility and will not hold South Bay School of Cooking, Cooking Lab LLC or any of its agents liable for any harm that may come to you or your guests. No hard liquor shall be brought to class and no one shall come to class intoxicated. If you become intoxicated, you will be asked to leave and no refund will be given.

Dress Code
Please bring an apron. We promise that you don’t have to wear hair nets, but we require long hair pulled back and close toe shoes (no heels, open toes, sandals or flip flops).

Knives
One knife sharpened for free per class.

Policies for Corporate, Private, Dining Club Group Cooking Classes

Group Size
For hands-on cooking classes, we can accommodate a maximum of 14 people comfortably for a hands on class.

Class Experience
Class lasts between 2½ and 3 hours, which includes prep/cooking/eating. We supply aprons to use during the class.

Food and Beverage
We offer a variety of seasonal or ethnic menus/meals, tapas, and appetizers. We always have plenty of food (beyond just tasting). Enjoy! Sorry but we cannot accommodate separate meals for people with food aversions, intolerances, and allergies.

Once you’ve committed to a date and payment is made, menu selections will be sent/discussed depending on your taste selection. Some menus are only workable for smaller groups we will discuss options with you.

We supply soft drinks and water. Wine or beer may be brought in. No hard alcohol permitted. For safety reasons, wine or beer can only be served with the meal. There is no drinking of alcohol prior to the class; anyone who is inebriated will be asked to leave with no refund given.

Pricing
Our minimum is $999 for 1-10 attendees, with an additional cost of $99 per person above 10. If the number of attendees increases after initial payment, we need to be notified ASAP. Payment will be adjusted and you will be directed to pay the additional fee using our automated reservation/payment system.

Payments
Payment must be made in full to reserve your space. We use an automated online reservation system. O nce you agree to a date/time, we set it up to accept payment for your group. We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover. There are no refunds or credits (see below).

Cancellations
No refunds or credits once commitment of payment has been received.

In the case of a cancellation, it is up to SBSOC management whether to reschedule (with a $100 re-booking fee). When you make your reservation, we schedule staff and potentially turn away other business.

Dress Code
SBSOC uses a working kitchen. Please tell your guests to wear comfortable closed toe shoes (NO SANDALS or HIGH HEELS), tie long hair back, and no blouses with billowing sleeves or scarves. Aprons will be provided during class.

Classroom Rules
The class begins on time. Please urge participants to show up promptly. Late comers will miss part of the experience/recipes and cause the class to have to rush to try and finish on time. There is no waiting for people to show up or make up what they missed.

Our classes are taught in a communal fashion. After cooking, plating and garnishing, you sit down and eat as a group and discuss your challenges and successes. Participants can take recipes home.

Please do not linger after class so our staff can clean up and close on time.
