South Bay School of Cooking

Your Cooking Success Grows from Our Experience

While some people enjoy cooking and see it as a creative outlet, others see it as a chore to get out of the way. South Bay School of Cooking demonstrates techniques and tips that make prepping effortless; cooking and entertaining becomes recreational and less of a chore.

Unlike other cooking classes where students just sit around and passively observe while looking at an overhead mirror or video, in our classes you roll up your sleeves and feel the dough between your fingers or get busy slicing and dicing, and most of all, have fun while cooking.

South Bay School of Cooking offers hands-on cooking classes for adults and summer camps for kids. We serve residents of Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, El Segundo, Torrance, Palos Verdes and Greater Los Angeles.

Our Staff

Chef Annette Gallardo
Start with a professional chef who worked in kitchens around greater Los Angeles. Mix in a dash of dancing with verbs as a former restaurant reviewer and founder of South Bay School of Cooking. Combine her international travels to get a passport to a variety of foods, cooking techniques, and wisdom. For the heck of it, add a bit of juggling and prompting an entire class to sing. And there you have it — Chef Annette Gallardo’s dynamic recipe for teaching the art and alchemy of cooking in a fun and entertaining way. Member of the Culinary Historians of Southern California, Pacific Food and Beverage Museum, Women Who Whiskey, and Museum of the American Cocktail (MOTAC).
Maggie Mullen
Maggie has worked for nearly 20 years in the culinary field, gaining a broad base of knowledge for making delicious food. She began chasing her passion at the Le Cordon Bleu school in San Francisco. She later worked in restaurants and specialty food stores in San Francisco, Orange County, and Portland, OR. One of her first positions was in the cheese and wine department at Whole Foods in San Francisco, which sparked an ongoing love for cheese. Years later, she had the opportunity to work on a goat farm in Hawaii, contributing to the production of gourmet goat cheese. In recent years, Maggie has managed the cooking school at Surfas Culinary District. She also teaches classes for private parties at the Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano, and now at South Bay School of Cooking.
Chef Diana
Chef Diana Rivera teaches classes and assists. She graduated with an Associate degree from California School of Culinary Arts, Le Cordon Bleu program. After completing her studies, she worked for an all-organic catering company with a focus on vegetarian and vegan menus. She also worked in the Disney/ABC studios cafeteria and catering. What really interested Diana about working at SBSOC is that it was a cooking school where people come to learn the beauty of cooking and how to create something with only a few ingredients.
Gabriela, a young pastry chef from the South Bay, teaches many of our baking classes. Since graduating from Le Cordon Bleu, she has worked at great bakeries including Bottega Louie, Susie Cakes, and Sinner’s and Saints Gluten Free/ Vegan dessertery in Venice Beach. Gabriela hopes to help you master the science of baking and pastries!
Daniela “Danie” Lopez
Danie Lopez is our very own success story: a student a few years ago who loved us so much she became an assistant. She is South Bay School of Cooking’s real “cheerleader”. Danie always helps us deliver a wonderful culinary experience with her winning smile and help around the kitchen.
Mary, our Kitchen Assistant, has been teaching children’s cooking classes for 13 years at St. Lawrence summer camp. She has also art classes to children in Torrance for over 20 years.
